Christmas in Fort Worth Activities

Do you have a merry family and need to find holly jolly activities to do during Christmas in Fort Worth? Here’s a great list to help you!

My family and I love the spirit of the season! My two boys are at great ages to pop them in the car and go for a drive. Light displays, parades, meeting Santa, these are all rites of passage in a kid’s Christmas experience. We enjoy taking our kids to special events like these. I researched a bunch and wrote about the top places I’d like to take them to celebrate Christmas in Fort Worth this year!

Lake Interlochen Light Display in Arlington – Talk about a great pitch for a Hollywood movie! These neighbors all started the light display tradition about 40 years ago. They try to up the ante and outdo each others’ homes annually. Lake Interlochen is a huge housing development that took the spirit of Christmas to heart. If an elderly neighbor can’t decorate their home themselves, the community pitches in with unused decor of their own to make sure that every house is in tip top holiday shape.

The best houses are awarded with the Findlay Award, named after the late founder of the tradition and original developer, Bob Findlay. Other awards such as “The Griswold Award”, “Most Artistic” and “Best Theme” grace the lawns of those extra festive homes. It’s a free event for you and your family. The only payment the residents receive is the warm smile on your faces as you drive by their light displays!

Want a drive through experience?

Prairie Lights Drive-Through Holiday Light Park – 4 million lights grace the 2 mile drive through a Christmas wonderland! Look in wonder at everything the season has to offer. Grand Prairie got it right when thinking about what a young family wants for a holiday outing. Stay warm in your car while looking at the beautiful displays for one mile. When you reach the center of the attraction, park and walk for food, drinks, carnival rides and meeting Santa! Then bundle everyone up for a drive through the world’s longest light tunnel to the exit of the display.

There’s something for everyone in Grand Prairie. Whether it’s a candied apple, a ride on the carousel, making sure Santa got your wishlist, running through thousands of lights in a forest, you have to try this place out. Everyone will get in the spirit and be ready for Christmas Day!

Gift of Lights at Texas Motor Speedway – Very similar to the drive in Grand Prairie, the Texas Motor Speedway puts on a great drive-through light show. With millions of lights, you and your family will be enthralled with the spirit of Christmas in Fort Worth. Food and beverages are served in Santas Village with the opportunity for pictures with the bearded man as well. Bring your four legged friends too! Texas Motor Speedway loves seeing your furry family members.

Tickets are $30 per carload. You can sit in the bed of a pickup truck to view the show as well. Limos, RV’s and buses are also permitted although ticketing prices will fluctuate. The entire ride averages 45 minutes to one hour long. Cozy up in your car for this festive field trip!

How about Christmas spirit at home?

Decorator’s Warehouse in Arlington – Need a Christmas tree? How about a nutcracker that will fit in with your farmhouse style home? Or maybe you’ve had your eye on a Grinch themed Christmas wreath? Look no further. You want Christmas decor, you got it! Right here in Arlington, Texas. Decorator’s Warehouse contains more yuletide furnishings than any place I have ever visited. Their massive 60,000 square foot building houses more holly jolly goodness than most people know what to do with. 20 different themed displays give you inspiration to put a different holiday scheme in each of your living spaces. It’s true what they say, “everything is bigger in Texas”!

With knowledgable staff that comes up to help you, they really assist in piecing your vision together. They enjoy their jobs so much and resemble real life elves working to bring the Christmas magic to your home. I cannot say enough good things about their motivation to serve you and your family!

SantaLand in Tyler, TX – Home of the original drive-through lights display, this family owned and operated attraction features their car friendly Christmas lights, Santa’s workshop and trailer rides. Open 7 days of the week, including holidays, try to visit on a weekday so the crowds are more sparse. Visit their gift shop that features an Elf on the Shelf Adoption Center! Since the elves are so elusive, this might be your one chance to catch one this holiday season.

Admission is $30 per vehicle with a slight increase in price for groups greater than ten people. You can purchase the tractor trailer ride separately once you get to the gift shop! This ride runs from Thanksgiving to January 1st with a $15 admission price per person.

Why go to events during Christmas in Fort Worth?

Make the most of the holiday season and instill the same wonder you had into your children. The innocence of childhood is fleeting. Let’s all see the world through their little eyes for a while! Light displays, sitting with Santa, drinking hot chocolate are all some of my fondest memories growing up. It’s such a wonderful time in a person’s life.

While you’re getting in the spirit of things, don’t forget about your Christmas cards! Spread your family’s holiday cheer with extended family and friends by taking Christmas photos for your cards. A professional photoshoot is the best way to show your relatives how you’re doing!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Until next time, may your day be happy and your coffee be strong!
